World Religions Chapter 2 Review question #4 The spiritual specialists in the indigenous sacred ways are storytellers and mystical intermediaries. The story tellers are the ones that must memorize long and complex stories and songs that will help the groups sacred traditions and continue for many generations.(48) Many indigenous people we killed when they knew of colonial powers that is when the people we killed by war and deadly diseases. That caused the traditional languages to lose meaning in their culture.(49) Secret society is a sacred role for the indigenous people. To be a part of this society you must go through initiation or invited. When becoming a part of this secret society during serving in ceremonial capacities members may wear special costumes to hide their human identities and influence them to be more like the sprits they are representing. The indigenous women also have their own secret society. It is said that they mock many of the rituals the men. They both believe in the eternal Dreaming. Another spiritual s pecialist is the sacred dancers. They use their body movements as their language to expressing the culture and the stories. Many people are dedicated to perform these rituals sometimes the dancer may communicate with a sprit. (50) Mystical intermediaries are another spiritual specialist. These people may be a help to the society and their skills to benefit others. They indigenous people try to make it clear that these people do not use black magic to harm others and do not interfere with the comic order. The medicine power is the given ability to heal physical psychological and spiritual problems. The medicine person will try to heal the person with many different spiritual rituals.
